Opened in 1921\, th
e Douglass Theatre hosted early jazz and blues greats\, such as Bessie
Smith\, Duke Ellington\, Cab Calloway\, Fletcher Henderson\, and Ma Raine
y while running popular feature length films and serials. Later\, it becam
e centerstage for the legendary superstars Little Richard\, James Brown an
d Otis Redding\, of the R&\;B and soul music eras.
Now newly re novated\, the Douglass Theatre hosts a variety of events. Equally\, it has become a sought-after location for Hollywood films\, such as the 2019 Emm y-winning HBO series Watchmen\, which filmed pivotal scenes at the Douglas s Theatre.
