Rick Darke is a world-renowned author\, la
ndscape designer\, lecturer\, photographer and owner of Rick Darke\, \
;LLC\, based in Pennsylvania.
He spent the first 20 years of hi
s career at Longwood Gardens where he worked his way up to Curator of Plan
ts. \;Using the knowledge he gained there\, he has traveled the world
as a plant explorer. As a landscape design \;consultant\, he blends ar
t\, ecology\, and cultural geography in the creation and conservation of l
ivable landscapes. \;Rick is an award-winning author of nine books\, c
o-authoring two of them with Piet Oudolf (Gardens of the High \;Li
ne) and Doug Tallamy (The Living Landscape: Designing for Beauty
and Biodiversity in the Home Garden). \;Two of his books\, Th
e American Woodland Garden and the Encyclopedia of Grasses for Li
vable Landscapes won \;the American Horticultural Society&rsquo\;
s Book Award.
Whether Rick is teaching students at the Universi
ty of Delaware or speaking to a garden club\, he challenges and \;enga
ges his audience. He deeply cares for plants and the gardeners who love th
em and is committed to sharing \;his vast knowledge to cultivate livab
le landscapes both large and small for all.
