 experiences and talents to improve the lives of children in need.</li>\n<l
 i><strong>Caring Companion</strong> volunteers may be the difference betwe
 en self-reliance and mere survival. With your assistance\, older people re
 ceive extra help so they can remain independently in their own homes witho
 ut premature nursing home placement.</li>\n</ul>\n<p><em><strong>Resources
  and how Tri-Valley Opportunity Council can assist you or your loved one:<
 /strong></em></p>\n<ul>\n<li>The <strong>Caring Companion Program</strong>
  is an essential community-based service based on the principle that in-ho
 me care can help prevent premature nursing home placement.</li>\n<li><stro
 ng>Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program</strong> (LIHEAP) Known local
 ly as <strong>fuel assistance</strong>\, this program helps income eligibl
 e households with their home energy bills. Assistance may include bill pay
 ment assistance\, emergency assistance and energy related home repairs &nd
 ash\; fixing or replacing furnaces for those families that own their home.
  Any Minnesota resident may apply for the program from October 1\, 2023 to
  May 31\, 2024.&nbsp\;</li>\n<li><strong>Tri-Valley Transportation</strong
 > also known as <strong>T.H.E. Bus</strong> (Tri-Valley Heartland Express)
  is a curb to curb service and provides public transportation services to 
 the general public in eight Minnesota counties\, Polk\, Red Lake\, Norman\
 , Marshall\, Kittson\, Pennington\, Mahnomen\, and Clearwater. Buses run t
 hrough these counties on various days with various destinations. Our publi
 c transit buses are available with no age limits or income guidelines. Bus
 es have seating available for up to 40 passengers. Each bus is handicap ac
 cessible with two accessible entrances. If passengers are unable to use th
 e door he/she may request the use of the lift. Each driver has been traine
 d to properly use the lift and secure mobility devices within the buses.</
 li>\n<li><strong>Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program Outreach (SNAP)
 </strong> People who are working or have regular income from other sources
  than work\, such as Social Security or a retirement pension\, disability 
 benefits\, child support\, or unemployment\, can often get SNAP benefits.&
 nbsp\;</li>\n<li><strong>Emergency Services</strong> may provide direct fi
 nancial services for persons who are homeless or threatened with homelessn
