From the ancient oral traditions of bards to contemporary spoken word artists\, poetry has maintained a close relati onship to the world of music. Additionally\, poets have also been inspired by songs and written in response to the music around them. This generativ e poetry workshop will examine how poets today use music as the first step in the writing process. Participants will craft poems and listen to music in order to take their writing into new and unexpected directions.
\n< p>About CD Eskilson\nCD Eskilson is a trans poet\, editor\, and translator. They are a recipient of the C.D. Wright/Academy of American Poets Prize\, as well as a Best of the Net\, Best New Poets\, and Pushcart Prize nominee. Their debut poetry collection\, Scream / Queen \, is forthcoming from Acre Books in 2025. They&rsquo\;re currently an MFA candidate at the University of Arkansas where they've received the Walton Family Fellowship in Poetry\, the James T. Whitehead Award in Poetry\, an d the Lily Peter Fellowship in Translation.
\nCD is assistant poetry editor for Split Lip Magazine and a member of the editorial board for&nbs p\;Exposition Review\, where they were previously poetry editor. For two y ears\, they served as the Series Coordinator for the Open Mouth Literary C enter where they developed and facilitated monthly poetry workshops and re adings. They have also run independent writing workshops on poetic craft a nd form for small groups\, as well as been a presenter at the Association of Writing Programs (AWP).
