Lee Lanier\, of Lee Lanier Paints Art Gall ery located in the Arts Factory\, has created this interactive exhibit inv iting viewers to write the narratives for his quirky\, acrylic paintings. Lanier created the exhibit based on his opinion that visitors to LLPAG oft en had more interesting interpretations of his paintings than he did. The characters in the paintings interact with surrounding objects or each othe r\, and are often based on mythological\, literary\, or pop-culture archet ypes. Although these paintings are narrative in nature\, they present scen es \;midway \;through a particular tale so that the viewer can dec ide what is transpiring.
\nARTIST STATEMENT
\nI am fascinated with old stories. The inspiration for my works almost always starts with a historical\, literary\, and mythological character. Like Renaissance arti sts\, I weave complex narratives with multiple posed figures. I am drawn t o universal human themes such as life and death\, temptation and faith\, a nd creativity and industry. My end goal is to create works of art that can be viewed multiple times while inspiring spirited conversations among gro ups of dissimilar viewers.
