X-ALT-DESC;FMTTYPE=text/html:<p>VIRTUAL | After the event date\, watch the
talk any time through <a href="https://libraryc.org/bpl">Library Speakers
Consortium</a></p>\n<p>A fascinating conversation with Madeline Miller\,
 bestselling author of&nbsp\;<em>The Song of Achilles&nbsp\;</em>and&nbsp\;
<em>Circe\,&nbsp\;</em>as she chats about her body of work and her process
in retelling Greek classics into modern epics in fiction.&nbsp\;</p>\n<p>
In <em>The Song of Achilles\,</em>&nbsp\;seduced by the promise of a glori
ous destiny\, Achilles joins the heroes of Greece in the&nbsp\;siege of Tr
oy after the kidnapping of Helen of Sparta. Little does he know that the c
ruel Fates will test them all as never before and demand a terrible sacrif
ice.</p>\n<p><em>Circe</em>&nbsp\;is the story of the daughter of Helios\,
the god of the sun. Circe is a strange child--neither powerful like her f
ather nor viciously alluring like her mother. Turning to the world of mort
als for companionship\, she discovers that she does possess power: the pow
er of witchcraft\, which can transform rivals into monsters and menace the
gods themselves.</p>\n<h5>About the Author</h5>\n<p>Madeline Miller is th
e #1&nbsp\;<em>New York Times</em>&nbsp\;bestselling author of two novels:
&nbsp\;<em>The Song of Achilles</em>\, which won the Orange Women&rsquo\;s
  Prize for Fiction 2012\, and&nbsp\;<em>Circe</em>\, which was&nbsp\;short
-listed for the Women&rsquo\;s Prize for Fiction 2019. Her books have been
translated into over thirty-two languages. Miller holds an MA in Classics
from Brown University\, studied in the Dramaturgy department at Yale Scho
ol of Drama\, where she focused on the adaptation of classical texts to mo
dern forms\, and taught Latin\, Greek\, and Shakespeare to high school stu
 dents for over a decade.</p>\n<p>Explore <a href="https://burlington.bibli
