Science fiction isn&rsquo\;t just about me n in a lab or robots in space&mdash\;it&rsquo\;s also about us\, all of us \, our families and our communities. \;
\nIn this hybrid lecture and interactive writing workshop\, audiences will learn a brief history a nd definitions of speculative fiction&mdash\;an umbrella term that encompa sses the genres of science fiction\, fantasy\, space opera\, supernatural\ , horror\, etc. We&rsquo\;ll then engage in writing exercises to give part icipants an opportunity to write in the genre\, starting with a warm-up pr ompt before tackling questions about how issues like climate change\, gene tic manipulation\, or artificial intelligence might affect them in the dec ades to come. \;
\nDevelopments in science and technology affect people of all genders\, races\, and nationalities\, so we should all have a voice in exploring the changes we&rsquo\;ll face. This workshop will em power participants to start imagining&mdash\;and writing&mdash\;the world of the future.? \; \;

\nAbout the Presenter
\nTara Ca mpbell (she/her) is an award-winning writer\, teacher\, Kimbilio Fello w\, and fiction co-editor at Barrelhouse. She graduated from American Univ ersity&rsquo\;s MFA in Creative Writing. She teaches flash fiction and spe culative fiction at institutions such as American University\, Johns Hopki ns University\, Clarion West\, The Writer&rsquo\;s Center\, Hugo House\, a nd the National Gallery of Art. She&rsquo\;s the author of a novel\, two h ybrid collections of poetry and prose\, and two short story collections. H er sixth book\, City of Dancing Gargoyles\, is forthcoming from Santa Fe W riters Project in fall 2024.
