He will discuss the history of Juneteenth as well what the 19th day of June in 1865 cultivated for African Americans and America as a whole. As we find ourselves almost 160 years removed fro m that date\, Jean-Bart will discuss the importance of ensuring freedom an d economic promise for African Americans and all members of the African di aspora and how that serves as a benefit to America as a whole.
\nRud y Jean-Bart is a native of Miami\, FL. \; He currently serves as the A ssociate Dean of Criminal Justice at Broward College. \; Prior to bein g an associate dean\, Jean-Bart served as an Assistant Professor of Histor y at Broward College's South Campus where he taught American History and A frican American History. \; In the academic year of 2015-2016\, he was awarded the 2015-2016 Broward College South Campus Professor of the Year. \; While at Broward College Jean-Bart has also been a recipient of th e Gaddis Corporation Endowed Teaching Chair\, Broward College Aspen Facult y Innovation Grant\, and the SOTL Innovation Grant. \; Rudy was also s elected by Legacy Magazine as one of South Florida&rsquo\;s &ldquo\;40 Und er 40: Black Leaders of Today and Tomorrow&rdquo\; in 2020.
