Ellis Island\, often referred to as: the & ldquo\;Island of Hope&rdquo\; and &ldquo\;Island of Tears.&rdquo\; Find ou t why by taking a slideshow and lecture covering the island&rsquo\;s earli est days up to the present day. Relive some of our immigrants&rsquo\; expe riences\, and stories\, along with their fears and disappointments. \nAbout Mario Medici: \;Mario Medici\, a retired Information Technology executive who has traveled the world\, is New York City born and raised. He completed his u ndergraduate degree at Bernard Baruch College (CUNY) and his graduate degr ee at Long Island University. He is a licensed New York City tour guide (L icense #2032026-DCA)\, a passionate history enthusiast\, and nurtures his curiosity about all things. In his presentations\, he takes on New York Ci ty&rsquo\;s interesting history as well as other subject matter. Through a combination of diligent research\, computer skills and love for amateur p hotography\, Mario presents the story combining video and music\, as well as elements of art\, architecture and notable individuals\, making each le cture interesting and fast-moving. \; \;Mario currently lectures a t Bergen Community College's Institute for Learning in Retirement (ILR) an d has a growing list of over 80 venues that includes schools\, community o rganizations\, and libraries.
