Rita Wright is recently retired as the Dir ector of the Springville Museum of Art in Springville\, Utah. The Museum&r squo\;s collection focuses on Utah art with smaller collections of America n and Russian art. She came to the Museum in October of 2012 from the LDS Church History Museum in Salt Lake City\, Utah where she was the Curator o f Art and Artifacts for two years. As Curator she was responsible for acqu iring new art works and for developing new exhibitions. Her primary emphas is was on religious art education.
\nPrior to her time in the Church History Department Rita was the Academic Programs Coordinator for Museum Education at the Brigham Young University Museum of Art (MOA)where she wor ked for eight years. Before that she taught the Humanities History of Civi lization courses at BYU for seven years. She received her Ph.D. at the Uni versity of Utah in European History with Ancient and Art History minors. H er dissertation subject focused on Victorian ritualism as it was manifeste d in the fine arts of the period. She has an undergraduate degree in Theat re and Film\, and a Masters degree in Humanities from Brigham Young Univer sity.
\nRita serves on numerous local\, state and national boards in cluding: Board Chair\, Office of Museum Services (OMS)\, Utah State Divisi on of Arts and Museums\, Executive Board Member\, Utah Non-Profits Associa tion (UNA)\, Utah County Tax and Tourism Commission Board Member\, Board m ember\, Utah Chapter\, Institute of Classical Architecture and Art (ICAA)\ , Springville City Arts Commission\, Staff advisor.
