X-ALT-DESC;FMTTYPE=text/html:<p>Cuba Before and After explores memory and
homeland through a collection of oil on canvas paintings that captures the
landscape\, people\, and culture of Cuba throughout its many moments. Fro
m the Cuban War of Independence to the Revolution of 1959\, Cuba&rsquo\;s
history is one that is defined by turbulent change and the constant search
for freedom\, and Yolanda Blanco represents this in her work as she captu
res those many moments in the past that are integral to understanding Cuba
&rsquo\;s present. Among this are depictions of the rich culture that is e
ver evolving\, with its rich folklore and music capturing the essence of w
hat Cuba represents and how it continues to adapt. The colorful flora and
fauna burst from the canvas in bright hues of paint\, drawing its audience
in to engage with the beauty of the tropical Caribbean island.</p>\n<p>In
this richness\, Cuba Before and After creates an image of Cuba that is de
eply personal. The artist aims to bring the audience into her own experien
ces of Cuba as someone who had to experience exile from her homeland. Pain
tings such as Buscando Libertad shows Cuba as it is today and the struggle
s its people face.&nbsp\;<br />&nbsp\;<br />Yolanda Blanco was born in Hav
ana\, Cuba. She moved with her family to Miami\, Florida\, in 1966. She wo
rked as she studied and after graduating\, worked for Miami Dade County in
different positions before retiring after 32 years of service.</p>\n<p><b
r />For the past 12 years\, Yolanda has dedicated herself to painting prof
essionally. Inspired by a friend\, she began taking painting classes and e
nded up returning to college to pursue her craft. She happened to met Albe
rto Pancorbo\, a Spanish artist\, and under his direction and private tute
lage enhanced her art knowledge and skills.<br />Yolanda has exhibited her
artwork at the Miami Dade Government Center\, Ritz Carlton Hotel\, Miami
 Beach\, Hallandale Beach\, Miami Dade College\, International Campus\, Cor
al Gables Museum\, galleries\, art fairs\, and other cultural events.</p>\
