 n<p></p>\n<p>About the instructor:</p>\n<p>Alejandro Herrera was born and 
 raised in Santo Domingo\, Dominican Republic with the inspiration and aspi
 ration for teaching since he was a teenager hanging out in Santo Domingo&a
 cute\;s villages.</p>\n<p style="text-align: left\;">In 1979\, Hurricane D
 avid devastated his home island\, sweeping away many villages\, leaving ov
 er 200\,000 people homeless. Alejandro&rsquo\;s passion for teaching and v
 olunteerism grew as he found ways to help those who were displaced. Engage
 d in hosting refugee families in his high school\, he started teaching lit
 eracy and life skills understanding that a hand-up is ever more effective 
 than a hand-out.&nbsp\;</p>\n<p style="text-align: left\;">He studied Econ
 omics at the Autonomous University of Santo Domingo. His graduate studies 
 led him to the National University of Costa Rica where he majored in Ecolo
 gical Economics.&nbsp\;After graduating\, he returned to the Dominican Rep
 ublic and spent more than 20 years building his career teaching sustainabl
 e development and economics at the Technological Institute of Santo Doming
 o.</p>\n<p style="text-align: left\;">In 2006-2007\, Alejandro participate
 d in the Hubert H. Humphrey Fellowship Program in Economic Development foc
 used on sustainable tourism at Michigan State University and George Washin
 gton University sponsored by the U.S State Department.</p>\n<p style="text
 -align: left\;">Since 2017\, Alejandro has lived in the Monadnock region w
 here he has been an active volunteer\, giving his time to the Colonial The
 ater\, Hillside Spring Farm\, Keene Restorative Justice Program\, Project 
 Home\, Monadnock Afghan Resettlement Program\, Keene Community Kitchen\, K
 eene Public Library\, and Keene International Festival.</p>\n<p style="tex
 t-align: left\;">Alejandro enjoys learning and teaching as well as listeni
 ng to music\, dancing and cooking. He recently started playing alto sax an
 d participating in the Monadnock New Horizon Band. This winter he has chos
 en downhill skiing as his next lifelong learning adventure.</p>\nhttps://p
