In this presentation\, writer Greg Bem wil l discuss his mixed media practice and how it relates to contemporary eco- poetics. Refined over many years of hiking and exploring the wilderness in the Northwest\, Greg's practice&mdash\;capturing field recordings\, still images\, and video&mdash\;can help form the poem while also defining our relationship to the land\, to natural systems and ecologies\, and to ecolo gical imperatives. This workshop will inspire other local writers to find ways to deepen their relationship with the natural world throughout the In land Northwest.

\nThis is one of eleven poetry events occurring at the first annual Inlan d Northwest Poetry Salon on June 1st.This first-annual\, day-long event at the Liberty Park Library (402 S. Pittsburg Street) will feature panels\, poetry workshops and a bevy of local writers. The Inland NW Poetry Salon c elebrates the craft of poetry\, spotlights regional poets\, and welcomes p articipants in all phases of their writing lives.
\nGreg Bem (he/him ) currently resides in Spokane where he is a librarian at Spokane Communit y College. Recently arrived after 13 years in Seattle\, he has since start ed Carbonation Press and is an active volunteer at Spark Central. Raised i n Southern Maine\, Greg has spent time in Rhode Island\, Philadelphia\, an d Cambodia. Since 2010\, Greg has co-designed\, co-organized\, and co-host ed countless arts and literary events. He currently co-runs the multidisci plinary Foray series in Spokane with poet and performer Sarah Rooney. His own work concerns ecologies and natural environments\, and bridges literar y forms with sound poetry\, field recordings\, ambient and noise music\, a nd performance art. He is the author of several books\, including Of Spray and Mist (Hand to Mouth\, 2019)\, Green Axis (Alien Buddha\, 2019)\, Like salt. Like a spine.
