\nAvram Grynberg survived them all\; Nazi occupation\, the misery of gh etto life\, Auschwitz\, hard labor in Nazi coal mines\, and a brutal death march. When liberation came\, he went home to Lodz\, Poland to wait for o thers in his family to return. None came back.
\nAfter five months o f mourning\, a chance encounter with a woman on the streets of post-war Lo dz led Avram on a six-hundred-mile journey to a displaced persons camp in Germany\, where he was joyously reunited with his wife. Along the way\, ha d to deal with rigid Russian diplomats\, thieves\, thugs\, and continued a ntisemitism\, but nothing was going to stop him from his quest.
