 e title by the hip-hop collective Clipping about a fantastical society of 
 merfolk who are the descendants of the pregnant enslaved women thrown over
 board by enslavers.</p>\n<p>In "The Deep\," Solomon&rsquo\;s protagonist\,
  Yetu\, is the society&rsquo\;s singular historian\, tasked with rememberi
 ng her people&rsquo\;s traumatic past so that her people can live unencumb
 ered by their history. The story explores Yetu&rsquo\;s journey as she tri
 es to escape the burden of carrying her people&rsquo\;s collective past an
 d is torn between serving her own needs and serving her people.</p>\n<p>In
  2020\, this novella won the Lambda Literary Award for best LGBTQ+ Science
  Fiction\, and was nominated for Hugo\, Nebula and Locus awards.</p>\n<p><
