X-ALT-DESC;FMTTYPE=text/html:<p>Do you find yourself attracted&nbsp\;to th
e strange and unusual? Do you enjoy what others may find frightening? If s
o\, join the Horror Book Club where each month we'll provide you with dive
rse horror authors and titles to discuss with people who enjoy the same ge
nre as you.&nbsp\;During this session\, we'll be discussing Cassandra Khaw
 's\, <em>Nothing But Blackened Teeth</em> and <em>The Salt Grows Heavy</em
 >. You can read one or both titles.</p>\n<p><em>Nothing But Blackened</em>
 &nbsp\;<em>Teeth</em>\, is a short\, creepy haunted house tale\, brimming
with Japanese folklore\, cleverly reveals the monstrousness in ordinary hu
man callousness--we're awful not from horrendous actions or beliefs\, but
because we just react and shout each other down.</p>\n<p><em>The Salt Grow
s Heavy</em>\, what if the Little Mermaid laid eggs and her hatched childr
en's hunger laid waste to her prince's land? The mermaid\, who's been held
captive and rendered mute by her husband\, meets up with the only survivo
r in the land\, a plague doctor. This compelling tale features strong worl
dbuilding\, innovative uses of body-horror tropes\, and lush language. For
fans of sinister\, thought-provoking\, horrific retellings of Western cla
ssics by authors of marginalized identity like Helen Oyeyemi and Ahmed Saa
dawi.</p>\n<p>Attendance is limited\, and advance registration is required
. This will be used to save your spot in the program. We cannot guarantee
availability for any unregistered adult. To sign up\, see library staff\,
