ng>About the Presenter:</strong> Carylin Melendez was born and raised in P
uerto Rico.&nbsp\; Though she studied to become a teacher\, life took her
down a different path\, banking. She has been in banking for more than 20
years. Carylin enjoys helping people\, and her position as Financial Welln
ess Officer has allowed her to come full circle\, empowering and guiding V
isions Federal Credit Union members and non-members through their financia
l journey.</p>\n<p>Visions Federal Credit Union was founded by eight IBM w
orkers and 40 bucks. That&rsquo\;s right - five little dollars each in 196
6 became more than $5.5 billion in assets today.&nbsp\; In the decades tha
t followed\, we&rsquo\;ve gradually grown to more than 250\,000 members se
rved by nearly 60 branches in three states. We&rsquo\;re proud of that and
everything credit unions stand for.&nbsp\; Credit unions are not-for-prof
its owned by the members\, which means we work for them and not stockholde
rs. When a credit union makes profits\, it goes right back to the members
in the form of low interest rates\, smaller fees\, and dividends. Plus\, o
ur member deposits are federally insured\, and no member of a federally in
sured credit union has ever lost one penny of insured savings.</p>\n<p>Thi
s program is part of our <em>Dollars and Sense</em> series on financial we
llness.&nbsp\; Register online or by calling the Library at (973) 584-2400
