X-ALT-DESC;FMTTYPE=text/html:<p>When lots in the Sunnyside Addition first
went on sale in 1888\, the neighborhood quickly&nbsp\;became a popular eas
t side streetcar suburb. Commercial development along Belmont Street and H
awthorne Boulevard soon&nbsp\; followed\, and by the 1920s\, the neighborh
ood was a bustling part of the city of Portland. Through images and maps\,
local historian Val C. Ballestrem shares the story of the early developme
nt of the neighborhood\, from early steam-powered streetcars to the arriva
l of a beloved library and other well-known buildings. No registration req
uired\, space is limited.&nbsp\;</p>\n<p>A longtime resident of the Portla
nd area\, Val Ballestrem is the author of <em>Lost Portland\, Oregon</em>
(History Press\, 2018) and has written about the Mount Hood Freeway and se
veral other topics for the <a href="https://www.oregonencyclopedia.org/">O
