  was the inspiration for the NBC prime-time series &ldquo\;Rise.&rdquo\; H
 is book <em>The Ticket Out: Darryl Strawberry and the Boys of Crenshaw</em
 >\, is currently being developed by LeBron James&rsquo\;s production compa
 ny\, Springhill\, for television. Sokolove has written on a wide range of 
 subjects for the New York Times\, including\, frequently\, national politi
 cs.</p>\n<p>In all of his work\, he dwells deeply on rich characters and t
 he worlds they inhabit. The New York Times Book Review has praised him as 
 &ldquo\;a natural literary stylist with the gifts of a social historian.&r
 dquo\;</p>\n<p>In honor of Jewish American Heritage Month (May) Michael wi
 ll talk about his career and how his Jewish background influences his writ
 ing and the subjects he chooses to tackle.</p>\n<p>This month\, we hope yo
 u will join us in celebrating the many contributions of Jewish Americans a
 nd that you will learn more about the history\, culture\, accomplishments\
 , and diversity of the American Jewish community.</p>\n<p>By celebrating h
