He to ok early retirement to pursue bird activities and served on the Atlanta Au dubon Board of Directors for 12 years\, including President\, and became t he Important Bird Areas Coordinator for Georgia from 2000 through 2007. He is the author of five bird guides including \;Common Birds of Coa stal Georgia\, \;Common Birds of Greater Atlanta\, and < em>Common Birds of the Gulf Coast.
