In commemoration of NAIDOC Week\, Ge elong Regional Libraries is celebrating First Nations creativity in this r egion and shining the spotlight on some First Nations artists and creative s who are transforming the local arts scene\, and paving the way for futur e Indigenous creatives.

\nAunty Fay Muir< /strong> - \;a Senior Boonwurrung\, Wemba Wemba\, and Wergaia woman\, First Nations&rsquo\; community leader and Koori Court Elder\, Aunty Fay h as served the Victorian community for over 40 years as a First Nations lan guage specialist and sharer of culture and stories. Her children's picture book series\, &lsquo\;Our Place&rsquo\; \, written with Sue Lawson\, has been published by Magabala Books.
\nMick Ryan -&nbs p\;a Ngarrindjeri and Gunditjmara musical artist\, Mick Ryan's art is inst alled as a soundscape throughout the Level 1 glass link foyer at Geelong A rts Centre. Mick is also part of duo Loud n Deadly\, an acoustic First Nat ions group from Geelong playing a variety of original songs and covers.
\nThe panel discussion will be led by Sue Lawson\, au thor of Inside Story\, a writing book for children\, Country< /em>\, published with Wild Dog Books and written with Aunty Fay Muir\, and Always Was\, Always Will Be published by Magabala and also co wr itten with Aunty Fay Muir. \; \;
\nHeld across the country f rom 7-14 July 2024\, NAIDOC Week will celebrate and recognise the history\ , culture and achievements of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people s. The 2024 NAIDOC week theme is 'Keep the fire burning! Blak\, loud and p roud'.
