X-ALT-DESC;FMTTYPE=text/html:
Carley Brown's "Layers of Whimsy"<
/strong>
\n
In my artwork I aim to create a surreal-like quality thro
ugh repetition\, flat 2D images\, and naturalistic subject matter\, combin
ing these different elements to discover a cohesive single image. I attemp
t to make my work feel dreamy and elicit a sense of wonder from the viewer
.
\n
Growing up I watched a lot of cartoons and read a lot of comics
with my family. These mediums simplify complex shapes while also providing
the freedom to exaggerate forms and features. They provide clarity when c
ommunicating certain ideas. I found myself drawn to adding these simple fo
rms on top or alongside naturalistic subject matter\, be it people or inan
imate objects.
\n
The two most important things to me when creating m
y work are my concept and my composition. I begin with a few sketches\, st
aying open-minded about what images to include and what not to include alo
ngside my main subject matter to make sure my idea is coming out clearly.
The combination of flat 2D images alongside naturalistic forms creates a n
ice contrast and makes the image feel as if it is not completely situated
in reality. Once my sketch is finalized I transfer my idea onto whatever s
urface I plan to do the finished piece be it digital\, canvas or paper.
\n
Artist Bio
\n
My name is Carley Brown\, I&rsqu
o\;m a painter and an illustrator\, dabbling in both traditional and digit
al media. I grew up in Lillington\, North Carolina and moved to Little Roc
k for college. I attended the University of Arkansas in Little Rock and gr
aduated in 2021 with a BFA emphasis in Illustration. I love to make work t
hat is fun and conceptual combing my love for 2D graphic art alongside nat
uralistic subject matter.
\nhttps://lamanlibrary.libnet.info/event/1090
