Dr. Jeff Friedman\, Professor of Dance Stu dies at Rutgers University\, will lecture on the Africanist dance aestheti c and African Arts Complex\, as they frame the amazing retention of dances developed by African diasporic enslaved people in the Southern U.S. durin g the 17th-19th \;centuries. Sample videos of dance practices and inte ractive movement interludes will accompany the lecture.

\nDr. Fr iedman received his PhD in Dance History and Theory from the University of California Critical Dance Studies PhD program in Riverside CA. A dance ar tist and Fulbright scholar\, Friedman is the recipient of numerous grant a nd awards for his research. He has been affiliated with Mason Gross School of the Arts at Rutgers University since 2003\, where he researches embodi ed oral traditions and oral histories of dance\, with a current interest i n dance and disability.
