The League of Women Voters of Illinois Mis/Disinformation Task Force\, along with area librar ies\, have invited Professor Daniel Simons from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign and author of Nobody's Fool to present a program titl ed Nobody's Fool: Why We Get Taken In and What We Can Do About It. The pro gram\, presented via Zoom webinar\, is scheduled for Thursday\, September 19\, at 7:00 p.m.

About Dr. Daniel J. Simons
Dr. Daniel J. Si mons is a professor of psychology at the University of Illinois where he h eads the Visual Cognition Laboratory. In addition to his position in the D epartment of Psychology\, he has courtesy appointments in the Charles H. S andage Department of Advertising and the Gies College of Business. His res earch explores the limits of awareness and memory\, the reasons why we oft en are unaware of those limits\, and the implications of such limits for o ur personal and professional lives. He is the co-author\, with Christopher Chabris\, of the 2023 book \;Nobody's Fool: Why We Get Taken In and W hat We Can Do About It \;as well as the 2010 \;New York Times  \;bestseller\, \;The Invisible Gorilla: How Our Intuitions Deceive Us. He has published more than 100 scholarly papers and has penned articles f or the New York Times\, the Wall Street Journal\, the Chicago Tribune\, Sm ithsonian Magazine\, and the Chronicle of Higher Education\, and many othe r outlets. His work has been featured in science museums worldwide. In add ition to his talks for academic audiences\, he speaks regularly to compani es\, organizations\, societies\, and the broader public. Dr. Simons has wo n awards for his teaching and mentoring\, and he currently teaches undergr aduate statistics and graduate courses on research practices\, speaking an d writing for broad audiences\, and special topics related to attention an d awareness (including a course on psychology and magic).
