 e July 27\, 2024 in-person talk that focused on the&nbsp\;importance of re
 moving invasives and planting native plants to protect local&nbsp\;biodive
 rsity.&nbsp\; In this session\, she will touch on the following topics:&nb
 sp\;</p>\n<ul>\n<li>What are some native plants that would provide color t
 hroughout the growing season?</li>\n<li>Which might be best suited to the 
 environmental conditions in my garden and to my interests?</li>\n<li>What 
 can I plant that is most critical to sustain&nbsp\;butterflies\, birds and
  bees and maintain biodiversity?</li>\n<li>Where can I buy&nbsp\;native pl
 ants? Where can I find more information?</li>\n</ul>\n<p>Janet says\, "all
  my life I have been a gardener. After I retired from the World Bank\, I e
 nrolled in a Master Gardener&nbsp\;class where all that I had previously r
 ead and experimented&nbsp\;with in my own garden crystallized. I came to r
 ealize the&nbsp\;importance of planting native plants to maintain biodiver
 se local&nbsp\;ecosystems and contribute to global biodiversity and a heal
 thy planet. I am now in the process of&nbsp\;(slowly) converting my own ga
 rden to incorporate&nbsp\;more native plants\, modernizing other outdated 
 but familiar gardening&nbsp\;practices\, and using the knowledge I gained 
 in the Master Gardener&nbsp\;program\, subsequent courses and readings\, a
 nd my own practical&nbsp\;experience to help others in the community do th
 e same thing."&nbsp\;</p>\n<p><em>This event is made possible through a pa
 rtnership with the Alexandria Beautification Commission.</em></p>\n<p><a h

 environmental sustainability through collaboration and engagement with Cit
 y Council\, City staff\, and private organizations\, and</li>\n<li>Educate
  local community on beautification &amp\; sustainability&nbsp\;best practi
