X-ALT-DESC;FMTTYPE=text/html:<p>A group of veteran members now manages thi
s long-standing Huntington Public Library book group. We invite you to sha
re in an exploration of highly regarded classics of literature\, history\,
and philosophy through a discussion technique known as &ldquo\;Shared Inq
uiry." Selections are from Great Conversations 2\, available for purchase
at the Main Library front desk for at the reduced price of $10 thanks to a
generous donation from the Friends of the Library.</p>\n<p>Set in aparthe
id South Africa in the 1950s\, Nadine Gordimer&rsquo\;s short story relate
s an encounter in a printing shop that takes place in among the shop&rsquo
 \;s mixed-race owner\, Jake\, a black trade unionist\, Maxie\, and two whi
te political sympathizers\, Alister and Jennifer. &ldquo\;Which New Era Wo
uld That Be&rdquo\; parses the political\, racial\, and sexual attitudes o
f these characters. It sheds light brilliantly on the complex interplay of
social forces in the South Africa of those years. Gordimer was awarded th
e Nobel Prize in Literature in 1991.</p>\nhttps://myhpl.libnet.info/event/
