DESCRIPTION:Get engineering with VEX Robotics! Working in teams\, kids age
s 8-13 plan\, record\, and solve practical problems using robots. **Please

X-ALT-DESC;FMTTYPE=text/html:<p>Robotics uses VEX IQ Generation 2 robot ki
ts to learn the basics of robot design and problem solving. Participants w
ill be divided into teams and work together to build and modify a VEX IQ r
obot to complete a given challenge (using various VEX IQ challenge sets).
Participants will be expected to keep &ldquo\;engineering&rdquo\; notebook
s detailing progress they make in both design choices and construction of
their robot with each member of the team taking turns acting as the &ldquo
\;recorder&rdquo\; for the notebook. The focus of the program is in learni
ng and understanding the engineering design process\, particularly iterati
ve design\, through hands-on problem solving. All participants must have b
asic reading and writing skills (2nd/3rd grade level
) as well as basic math skills (addition/subtraction).</p>\n<p>It is impor
tant that participants plan to remain in the course for the <strong><em>en
tire period</em></strong> from August through April (with no classes durin
g December). The projected schedule includes: learning about the challenge
and designing options through September (6-7 weeks)\; building/re-designi
ng the robot into March (approx. 16 weeks)\; practicing/skirmishing using
the R/C controller into late April (approx. 4 weeks)\; last session is a &
ldquo\;showcase&rdquo\; with the robots open to parents to attend.</p>\n<p
