Artist-In-Residence Justus Brozek is prima rily a printmaker\, carving woodblocks and linoleum blocks and also loves experimenting with non-traditional printmaking. Cyanotypes originated in 1 842 and have been in use ever since. Using a photosensitive solution\, sur faces can be treated and then exposed to the sun to create images. This pr ocess creates the dark blue color we typically associate with architectura l diagrams known as blueprints. Traditionally these colors were seen as in appropriate for fine arts photography so in order to create images more su itable to artistic sensibilities toning was developed. Using bleaching age nts and tannins\, found in tea\, coffee\, wine\, and juices you can create prints with a variety of earth tones.
