 k Award winner\, Sohrab Homi Fracis\, will show and tell\, via illustrativ
 e passages from his books\, how immigrant stories must evoke both the home
 land left behind and the new land the protagonists are making their own. H
 is stories show how\, in the process\, the immigrants&rsquo\; sense of pla
 ce and belonging\, as well as their sense of self or identity\, expand to 
 accommodate both settings\, resulting in a transnational or even global se
 nse of place and an often hyphenated identity.</p>\n<p>In a shrinking yet 
 divided and subdivided world\, as we approach a contentious national elect
 ion with immigration policy a central issue\, Fracis&rsquo\;s work reflect
 s the push and pull of the matter\, enabling a deeper understanding of the
  immigrant life.</p>\n<p><strong>Sohrab Homi Fracis</strong>&rsquo\;s book
 \,&nbsp\;<a href="https://jkpl.ent.sirsi.net/client/en_US/default/search/r
 esults?qu=%22true+fiction%22&amp\;qu=AUTHOR%3Dfracis&amp\;te=" target="_bl
 ank" rel="noopener"><em>True Fiction</em></a>\, won the 2023 International
  Book Award for story collections. <em>Ticket to Minto</em> won the Iowa S
 hort Fiction Award\, juried by the legendary Iowa Writers Workshop and&nbs
 p\;described by the&nbsp\;New York Times&nbsp\;as "among the most prestigi
 ous literary prizes America offers." It was the first book by an Asian Ame
 rican to do so.&nbsp\;Stanford University Libraries shortlisted his novel\
 ,&nbsp\;<a href="https://jkpl.ent.sirsi.net/client/en_US/default/search/re
 sults?qu=%22go+home%22&amp\;qu=AUTHOR%3D%22fracis%22&amp\;te=" target="_bl
 ank" rel="noopener"><em>Go Home</em></a>\, for the William Saroyan Interna
 tional Prize. He was Twin Cities Visiting Writer in Residence at Augsburg 
 College and Artist in Residence at Yaddo. He received the Florida Individu
 al Artist Fellowship and the South Asian Literary Association&rsquo\;s Dis
 tinguished Achievement Award.</p>\n<p>This workshop is presented as part o
