 <p>Michael DiLauro is a celebrated director and producer of documentaries 
 and television programs who has earned six Emmys for artistic merit\, a Bl
 ue Ribbon from the American Film Festival and the prestigious Gabriel Awar
 d for outstanding television programming\, as well as numerous Telly award
 s\, arts council grants and fellowships.&nbsp\; In 2018 he wrapped up his 
 academic career as the Director of the Academic Media Center and Associate
  Professor of Media Arts. He retired with distinction as Professor Emeritu
 s from Robert Morris University in Pittsburgh. His 1979 film Fantasy Fling
  is an intimate look at the Disco subculture of Columbus\, Ohio. Michael a
 lso has ties to Miami and the MDPLS film collection - his uncle Mike Angui
 lano served as the first film librarian for MDPLS!&nbsp\;</p>\n<p><strong>
 About the Film Collection</strong></p>\n<p>The 16mm film collection has be
 en part of the Library's holdings for over 55 years. Its first films were 
 part of the City of Miami&rsquo\;s public library and began in the 1960s b
 efore there was a county library. When MDPLS was formed\, the County suppl
 emented its local funding for films with Federal LSCA grants (Library Serv
 ices and Construction Act). Apart from leased feature films\, all films we
 re purchased for free exhibition for the life of the print. Subjects withi
 n the collection include experimental/avant-garde art films\, non-narrated
  films\, children&rsquo\;s films\, Black history\, Floridiana\, and local 
 history. Today\, there are over 4\,000 films within the collection.</p>\n<
 p><strong>About the Division of Special Collections &amp\; Archives</stron
 g></p>\n<p>Miami-Dade Public Library System&rsquo\;s Division of Special C
 ollections &amp\; Archives holds rare and irreplaceable historical documen
 ts for the benefit of the public and scholarly community. They oversee the
  Helen Muir Florida Collection\, 16mm Film Collection\, Cuban Collection o
 f Rare Books &amp\; Ephemera\, Genealogy Collection\, Vasari Project\, and
  rare &amp\; antiquarian books from as early as the 17th century. The Divi
 sion's primary goal is to provide the public with the contents of the vaul
 t at their request. Its collections include rare books\, original manuscri
 pts\, over 18\,000 photographs\, prints\, artifacts\, audiovisual resource
