 storic Preserve. This is the marquee entrance with the historic farmers&rs
 quo\; bridge visible from Riverview Road. A small parking pull-off area is
  available directly across from the intersection of Riverview Road and Van
 Vranken Road.&nbsp\;</p>\n<p>Please be aware that we will be in nature. Th
 ere may be ticks\, mosquitoes\, strong sun\, water on the trail\, uneven f
 ooting\, etc. Please dress appropriately.&nbsp\;</p>\n<p>All programs are

 icy.</a></p>\n<p>Bird Walk Tips &amp\; Suggestions from the Audubon Societ
 y of the Capital Region:</p>\n<ul>\n<li>In general\, a bird walk takes abo
 ut 1.5 to 2 hours. A good bird walk involves looking and listening\, which
  means we&rsquo\;ll be doing a lot of starts and stops along the route.</l
 i>\n<li>At Vischer Ferry\, we&rsquo\;ll stick to walking on the trails\, w
 hich will make it an easier walk for most people\, especially beginners.</
 li>\n<li>People should bring their own binoculars if they have them\, &ldq
 uo\;buddy up&rdquo\; with someone who has them\, or check them out at the 
 Library.</li>\n<li>Dress in layers just in case it&rsquo\;s windy or cold.
  It&rsquo\;s a good idea to have a warm pair of gloves in your pack. Alway
 s wear a hat for sun and wind protection and wear sunscreen lotion.</li>\n
 <li>Gear that&rsquo\;s not required\, but handy:\n<ul>\n<li>A field guide 
 such as Roger Tory Peterson&rsquo\;s\, Sibley&rsquo\;s\, National Audubon 
 Society\, or Kaufman&rsquo\;s. These are all recommended by the Cornell La
 b of Ornithology\, and each has its own merits.</li>\n<li>Smart phone with
  the Merlin bird ID app installed. This is a FREE app from the Cornell Lab
  and is an amazing asset to birders in the field.</li>\n<li>Binoculars: a 
 pair of 7 x 35\, up to 8 x 42 binoculars are ideal for bird watching. If y
 ou buy new ones\, make sure they&rsquo\;re anti-fog and have coated optics
 . They should have adjustable eyepieces for people who wear glasses. A com
 fortable neck strap is very desirable.</li>\n<li>Spotting scopes are OK to
  bring\, but they tend to get heavy after lugging them around.</li>\n</ul>
