  the largely forgotten tragedy of the Canadian hospital ship Llandovery Ca
 stle.</p>\n<p>As we approach Remembrance Day\, please spare a thought for 
 the men and women who served on Canadian hospital ship Llandovery Castle.<
 /p>\n<p>Presented in partnership with Words Worth Books&nbsp\;in celebrati
 on of 40 years.</p>\n<p><strong>About <em>Atrocity on the Atlantic</em>:</
 strong></p>\n<p>On the evening of June 27\, 1918\, a clearly marked Canadi
 an hospital ship called the Llandovery Castle was torpedoed off the Irish 
 Coast by a German U-boat. Sinking hospital ships violated international tr
 eaties\, so the submarine commander tried to kill survivors to conceal his
  war crime.</p>\n<p>Most of the ship&rsquo\;s crew and the Canadian Army M
 edical Corps (CAMC) personnel on board&mdash\;including fourteen female nu
 rses&mdash\;died. A handful of survivors escaped to bear witness\, leading
  to global outrage and an unprecedented legal ruling that forever changed 
 war crime prosecutions.</p>\n<p>And yet\, this Canadian wartime tragedy qu
 ickly disappeared from public memory.</p>\n<p>Nate&rsquo\;s presentation a
 bout the Llandovery Castle ambush and aftermath lasts one hour and include
 s PowerPoint slides and time for audience questions.</p>\n<p><strong>About
  Nate Hendley:</strong></p>\n<p>Nate Hendley was born in New Haven\, Conne
 cticut in 1966. When he was an infant\, Nate&rsquo\;s father took a positi
 on at the University of Waterloo. The family moved to Canada where Nate ha
 s lived ever since.</p>\n<p>At present\, Nate is a Toronto-based journalis
 t and author. His work has appeared in The National Post\, Maclean&rsquo\;
 s magazine\, and numerous trade and business publications. He has also wri
 tten scripts for podcasts\, feature articles for the website of TVOntario 
 and several books\, primarily in the true-crime genre.</p>\n<p>Nate&rsquo\
 ;s book\, <a href="https://wpl-kitch.ca.iiivega.com/search/card?id=9da7794
 c-7a57-5da0-8191-e3b07252bd23&amp\;entityType=FormatGroup"><em>The Beatle 
 Bandit</em></a> won the Crime Writers of Canada Award of Excellence for No
 n-Fiction 2022 and was nominated for a Heritage Toronto 2022 Book Award.</
