This community book club is a partnership with the YWCA Northeast Kansas to create space for anti-racist learning\, conversation and connection. We meet at 7pm on the fourth Monday of every month (subject to change due to holidays) following a two-month topic cycl e. In the first month of our meeting cycle\, we will have presentations\, activities and other topic related items on the agenda. For our second mon th of the cycle we will meet to discuss our selected book. You are welcome to attend either or both meetings\, as it fits with your schedule. \;
\nOur November and December topic is &ldquo\;Violence is an Epidemi c.&rdquo\; In November CIVIC (Community Inspired Violence Intervention Coa lition) will teach us how to use My Sidewalk to get to know your neighborh ood. \nIn The Bodies Keep Coming\, Dr. Bri an Williams\, a Harvard trained physician\, recounts his experiences as a Black man in the trauma bay. From gunshot wounds to traumatic brain injuri es\, Williams has seen it all. \; Alongside narrations of the on-going s in the trauma bay\, Williams works to reveal the roots of violence peopl e are facing today because of racism. From injustices in daily life\, to i njustices in medicine\, William considers the underlying structures leadin g to racial violence and inequality. \;
