of 18 of the 64 works of art by the library&rsquo\;s Permanent Art Collect
ion Cuban-American artist Alex S&aacute\;nchez. Enjoy viewing a combinatio
n of acrylic and collage pieces that capture viewers with vibrant colors a
nd compelling imagery. S&aacute\;nchez incorporates classic iconography of
art history from Vincent van Gogh\, Tiziano Vecelli\, Francis Bacon and S
andro Botticelli among others - bringing them into a world of organic move
ment that seems to bleed from the canvas. This interplay between the old a
nd the new\, the organic and the modern\, the classic and the contemporary
\, serves to bring viewers into a world of contrast.</p>\n<p>Alex S&aacute
\;nchez has had a passion for painting since he was four years old. At the
age of 15\, he held his first art showing with fellow well-known Cuban pa
inters Wifredo Lam and Amelia Pel&aacute\;ez\, among others. During this t
ime\, he grew in popularity and was slowly recognized as an emerging artis
t in Cuba. At 16 years old\, he settled in New York and began working for
McCann Erickson\, the largest advertising agency at the time. To improve h
is art skills\, he also enrolled at the Pratt Institute. After a few years
\, his refined skills won him awards for his work as an illustrator\, lead
ing him to then become an art director and photographer\, traveling throug
hout all five continents. After a very early retirement\, S&aacute\;nchez
returned to the artistic world and fully dedicated himself to painting aga
in. His works have been sold internationally for the last several years.</
