She has come to seek a quieter and safer life\, although memo ries of war and death linger\, memories that are awakened when the childre n at her new school prepare for a scary Halloween. \;From Far Away&nbs p\;speaks to the power within us all to adapt like Saoussan and to welcome a newcomer.

\nWaterloo Region Migration Fil m Festival
\nEach year the Immigration Partnership and its member organizations come together to share film in the Waterloo Region Migration Film Fe stival. The goal of this festival is to capture the promise and challe nges of migration\, celebrate the contributions that migrants make to thei r new communities\, and to help our community better understand the challe nges our newcomer neighbors overcome as they make our region our home.
\nThis year\, the festival will take place in late summer. Our goal is to foster open discussions and promote a sense of belonging and community through respectful dialogues. Storytelling is a powerful tool for addressi ng social issues\, and the Waterloo Region Migration Film Festival serves as an educational platform to influence perceptions and advocate for basic human rights.
