Michael Lavrich and his beloved train disp lay at back at the Downtown Bend Library with the help of his son\, Kieran \, and long-time helpers\, Parker Gerard and Grace Lickwar.

This m arks Lavrich's twenty-first year displaying his trains at the library\, me aning children who first watched the trains run years ago may now have chi ldren of their own with whom they share this family tradition. Lavrich beg an collecting trains more than 20 years ago. While the public only sees th e display once it's all up and running\, the set-up involves a lot of back ground work. "I pretty well dedicate December to this\," Lavrich says. "It 's a three day set-up and a four day take-down\, and there are a few weeks on each end at home." All ages are invited to watch and listen as th e trains run. Lavrich's collection represents trains of the 1920s and '30s made by Lionel\, Dorfan\, Ives and American Flyer.
