on among the soaring peaks of the Himalayas.\nClick here to view program h

nk above. \nExperience some of the most magical mountain panoramas in Nepa
l as Larry makes his way along the illustrious Makalu Base Camp Trail to t
he village of Khokatak and eventually to the town of Langmale Kharka at a
breathtaking altitude of 14\,600 feet. Along the way there are spectacular
views of mountains like Everest- the highest in the world\, Makalu\, Lhot
se\, Kutumsang\, and Baruntse. \nIn 2022 Larry embraced the cause of Ten F
riends in Sisters\, Oregon\, a nonprofit organization on a mission to enha
nce the lives of the Nepalese people by building small village libraries i
n the remote areas of the Himalayas. Larry envisioned a little library in
Khokatak at the Balsudha Basic School to honor the memory of his parents a
nd brother. His remarkable trek to the Himalayas takes Larry to that littl
e library he helped to create that would become a symbol of his unique com
mitment to the people of Nepal.\nLarry Weinberg moved to Bend in 2005 foll
owing his retirement from Boeing in Seattle. He has taught mathematics at
Central Oregon Community College and Oregon State University Cascades camp
us. Larry is on the Board of Directors of Ten Friends (a Sisters-based non
profit) and the Deschutes Land Trusts Fundraising Committee. Larry has
shared tales of his past travels in Africa\, South America\, Asia and Euro
pe in several entertaining presentations to OLLI and REI in Bend. \nThe Os
her Lifelong Learning Institute at the University of Oregon (OLLI-UO) in C
entral Oregon invites community members to participate in our Friday Talks
in partnership with the Deschutes Public Library. OLLI-UO is an intellect
ual and social community of engaged adult learners\, connecting members to
university faculty and professionals in respective fields. A six-month or
yearlong membership allows participation in a variety of lectures\, cours
es\, peer-led study and discussion groups\, educational tours\, field trip
