X-ALT-DESC;FMTTYPE=text/html:<p>We meet in the main meeting room to read a
nd discuss books in French one Tuesday a month from 2:00 to 4:00 pm.&nbsp\
 ;</p>\n<p>On October 22\, we'll discuss &nbsp\;&laquo\;Chronique de la d&e
 acute\;rive douce&raquo\; by Dany Laferri&egrave\;re.&nbsp\;</p>\n<p>In hi
 s novel\, Haitian-born author Dany Laferri&egrave\;re recounts the events
and experiences of his first year in Montreal after escaping the dictatori
al regime in his homeland. The reader follows the protagonist from the mom
ent he arrives at the airport\, where he is immediately confronted with a&
nbsp\;culture that could not be any more different to everything he has kn
own before\, through his struggles and achievements. This&nbsp\;is a story
of contrast\, such as the coldness of the Canadian winter and the Haitian
heat\, of loneliness and the hardships of being a refugee\, but also one
of hope and perseverance. Is written in a poetic style and divided into 36
6 parts to represent each day of the leap year during which Lafferi&egrave
\;re first arrived in Montreal.</p>\n<p></p>\n<p>More information about th
