 month Monday Movie Musings is doing an exciting Double Feature of two lege
 ndary Chicano musicians!</p>\n<p>First up is 1997's "Selena\," written and
  directed by Gregory Nava\, and telling the story of Selena Quintanilla P&
 eacute\;rez\, more commonly known by the mononym "Selena." Released just t
 wo years after the young star's murder\, the film features a breakout earl
 y performance by Jennifer Lopez\, alongside industry legends Edward James 
 Olmos and Constance Marie. A tale of fame\, fortune\, and tragedy\, both t
 he real life Selena and her fictional screen counter-part are icons of the
  Tejano community and Hispanic-American folk heroes. Put on your disco boo
 ts\, &iexcl\;Es tiempo de bailar!</p>\n<p>And if you can't get enough\, or
  just looking for something different\, next up is 1987's "La Bamba." Writ
 ten and directed by Luis Valdez\, a pioneer of the Chicano movement and fo
 under of the "El Teatro Campesino" theater troupe. "La Bamba" tells the st
 ory of Chicano rock star Ritchie Valens\, who championed Spanish-speaking 
 Rock\, also known as "Rock en espa&ntilde\;ol." Another musician who died 
 tragically young\, at 17 Valens was a part of the plane crash that also cl
 aimed the lives of Buddy Holly and J. P. "The Big Bopper" Richardson\, com
 monly referred to as "The Day the Music Died." At the request of Valens' f
 amily\, the Mexican-American rock band Los Lobos recorded all of the songs
  in the film\, including the titular "La Bamba."&nbsp\;</p>\n<p><strong>Jo
