DESCRIPTION:I Just Gotta Be Me: Authenticity and Canadian Politics..\nhttp
 s://ideaexchange.libnet.info/event/11687254
X-ALT-DESC;FMTTYPE=text/html:<p>Scripted politicians sticking to carefully
crafted messages has long been a part of politics in Canada. In other wor
ds\, communications discipline now goes hand-in-hand with party discipline
. But these days voters are craving &ldquo\;authentic&rdquo\; politicians\
, and this may be contributing to the rise of populist candidates who ofte
n say and do whatever they want. What do our Members of Parliament think a
bout their own authenticity when it comes to their roles as elected repres
entatives? What limitations does authenticity face in a parliamentary cont
ext like Canada&rsquo\;s? This lecture will provide some preliminary insig
hts into the role of authenticity in Canadian politics.</p>\n<p>&nbsp\;</p
