Join us for a special rainbow storytime\, fun crafts and activities with 2024 CBC Kids Reads winner Sylv Chiang as she reads her book Still My Tessa\, a gently affirming story of the connection between siblings\, and learning to embra ce non-binary identities\, and be an effective ally at home and in our com munities.
\nHave fun together in a safe and supportive environment f or 2SLGBTQ+ children\, families\, and allies. \; This is a drop-in pro gram.
\nFamilies Under the Rainbow\, also known as Youth Under the R ainbow\, is a 2-year project generously funded by a grant from the Lyle S. Hallman Foundation. This program seeks to support children and families' sense of belonging in the community. The goal is to help foster a safe and supportive environment for 2SLGBTQ+ children\, their families\, and their allies. This program is run in collaboration with several organizations i ncluding SPECTRUM\, Waterloo Public Library\, Region of Waterloo Public Li braries\, Kitchener Public Library\, Idea Exchange\, and Artshine.
\nFamilies Under the Rainbow is a program presented in partnership with Spectrum Waterloo Region&rsquo\;s Rain bow Community Space.
\nAbout Sylv Chiang:
\nS ylv Chiang grew up in Toronto. As an only child\, she had a lot of quiet t ime to read. Her favorite series was Trixie Belden\, but she also loved bo oks by Judy Blume and Beverly Cleary. In Grade One\, she wanted to be an a uthor when she grew up. Besides reading\, young Sylv loved playing outside \, swimming\, and doing gymnastics. Sylv studied French at the University of Toronto\, and since all her past jobs had involved teaching kids\, the obvious path was to become a French teacher. She has taught French Immersi on\, Extended French\, and Core French in the Toronto District School Boar d. Sylv&rsquo\;s favorite part of being an author is when her characters s urprise her by doing something she wasn&rsquo\;t expecting. \;When sh e&rsquo\;s not writing\, you can find Sylv on her yoga mat or at the local library.
