From its very beginnings\, the new medium of motion pictures turned toward dance as one of the best ways to showcase its unique ability to make movement come alive. And through t he decades\, it&rsquo\;s been dancing on the big screen that has provided some of the most ecstatic moments in film history&mdash\;whether it&rsquo\ ;s Fred Astaire gliding on the ceiling in Royal Wedding\, the Nic holas Brothers leaping down a staircase in Stormy Weather\, Moira Shearer pirouetting through the dreamscape of The Red Shoes\, or John Travolta burning up the dance floor in Saturday Night Fever . \;
\nBrian Rose is a professor emeritus at Fordham University\ , where he taught for 38 years in the Department of Communication and Medi a Studies. He&rsquo\;s written several books on television history and cul tural programming\, and conducted more than a hundred Q&\;A&rsquo\;s wi th leading directors\, actors\, and writers for the Academy of Motion Pict ure Arts &\; Sciences\, the Screen Actors Guild\, the British Academy o f Film and Television Arts\, and the Directors Guild of America. His zoom lectures on film and television history have been presented at the Smithso nian\, the 92nd St Y.\, and at JCCs and libraries throughout the country.< /p>\n
