Local author\, Elissa Matthews will discuss her new co llection of short stories\, "Bittersweet and Magic" and share information on how the creative process works\, how a short story is born and how a sh ort story collection comes together. Elissa Matthews was born and raised i n New Jersey and began work right out of school at the phone company -- in New Jersey. At some point she got fed up\, launched on a journey of disco very\, and explored a bit of the world\, holding down a variety of jobs. O ne frigid day in November\, at 5 in the morning\, climbing into cold water scuba gear looking for a dead body\, she realized that maybe a 9 - 5\, cl imate-controlled job in an office somewhere wasn&rsquo\;t as bad as it sou nded. She now has a stable job\, a husband\, two children\, three cats\, a nd lives in New Jersey\, twelve miles down the road from where she grew up . She has published one novel\, Where the River Bends\, and a collection o f short stories\, Bittersweet and Magic. Her short stories and poetry have appeared in several journals and anthologies\, including Red Rock Literar y Review\, Lilith\, and Art Times.
