 . Renliang Xu as he highlights the rich heritage and unique sounds of trad
 itional Chinese music made possible by instruments such as the Er Hu and G
 u Zheng. Dr. Xu will also play a few of the instruments for our listening 
 pleasure. Participants will have the opportunity to interact with these in
 struments as part of the Instrument Petting Zoo.</span></p>\n<p><span styl
 e="color: #003300\;">The&nbsp\;Er Hu\, a two-stringed bowed instrument\, h
 as been a cornerstone of Chinese music for centuries. Its soulful and deep
  tones are renowned for conveying profound emotions\, captivating audience
 s with its expressive melodies. Despite having only two strings\, the Er H
 u produces a remarkably rich and complex sound that leaves listeners in aw
 e.</span></p>\n<p><span style="color: #003300\;">The&nbsp\;Gu Zheng\, a tr
 aditional Chinese zither\, adds another layer of musical depth to the perf
 ormance. With its 21 to 26 strings\, the Gu Zheng creates a wide range of 
 tones\, from delicate and ethereal to powerful and resonant. This instrume
 nt&rsquo\;s versatility and beauty make it a favorite in both solo and ens
 emble settings.</span></p>\n<p><span style="color: #003300\;">Dr. Renliang
  Xu holds a Ph.D. in Chemistry and is retired from the scientific instrume
 nt industry. He loves Chinese folk music\, is an amateur instrument player
 \, and a proud 33 year resident of Broward County!</span></p>\n<p><span st
 yle="color: #003300\;">In conjunction with this musical journey\, we invit
 e you to participate in the NEA Big Read\, a program designed to broaden o
 ur understanding of our world\, our communities\, and ourselves through th
 e joy of sharing a good book. This year\, the entire county is encouraged 
 to read &ldquo\;To Live&rdquo\; by Yu Hua.&nbsp\;This poignant novel tells
  the story of a man&rsquo\;s transformation from the spoiled son of a rich
  landlord to an honorable and kindhearted peasant as he and his family end
 ure the ravages of war and starvation.</span></p>\n<p><span style="color: 
 #003300\;">Join us for an unforgettable experience that combines the timel
 ess beauty of traditional Chinese music with the powerful narrative of &ld
