Mihoko Wakabayashi was born and grew up in Japan. Her major in college was education. She learned weaving by working with young people (K-12) who had difficulties in school in Japan and cont inued learning weaving for seven years. Since she opened her studio &ldquo \;SAORI Worcester&rdquo\; in 2000\, she has taught many people including p eople with various disabilities and got involved in the community while pu rsuing her own creativity. SAORI is a contemporary improvisational weaving originated in Japan.
\nBesides regular classes\, she has taught man y workshops at different organizations such as one-week fiber camps for ch ildren at Brookline\, a one-week workshop at Eliot School\, a weekend clas s for New England Weavers Seminar\, trial classes at deCordva and NH Arts Association\, a summer program and an afterschool program.
\nShe has made an art installation SAORI Bridge Project at Elm Park in Worcester\, Aug.-Sep. 2021 working with many organizations which was funded by Greater Worcester Community Foundation. She also has developed a program Seed to Fashion funded by Worcester Arts Council to teach weaving with yarn dyed w ith indigo that people grow together for six years. She also participates in shows and organize annual studio exhibition.
