A short film (14 mins) by 1504 about Tony&rsquo\;s installation at the Wal
lace Center for the Arts and Reconciliation will be shown before his lectu
re.</p>\n<p>Film and lecture begin at 5:45 pm in The Library Theatre\, wit
h the reception to follow. Wine and hors d'oeuvres will be served.&nbsp\;T
his event is free and open to the public.</p>\n<p></p>\n<p></p>\n<p>Multi-
disciplinary artist Tony M. Bingham lives and works in Birmingham\, AL. Th
rough his found and original audio work\, large-scale photography and scul
pture\, Bingham references various sites which offer opportunities to cons
ider African-American lifeways and ways of memorializing. Bingham received
a BA in Communications from Antioch College\, an MA in Film and Community
Media from Goddard College and an MFA from Georgia State University. In 2
024\, he was awarded the Southern Prize and Alabama Fellowship for Visual
Arts from South Arts. Bingham taught humanities and studio art at Miles Co
llege in Fairfield\, Alabama from 2006-2024.</p>\n<p>&ldquo\;I often wonde
r if materials hold memory. Do walls and floors &ldquo\;remember&rdquo\; w
ho touched them or walked and danced along their polished planks? I pose t
his question to myself as I consider an approach to art based in an examin
ation of history\, or histories. As an African American artist\, my practi
ce is dedicated to discovering the legacies and experiences of black folks
in the rural southern region of the United States\, stories and experienc
es not typically considered part of the American story.&rdquo\; - Tony Bin
