Older adults are at increased risk for poo r nutrition which can have negative effects that promote aging. Nutrition risk can be readily measured with simple questions on body weight\, food b ehaviour\, and risk factors for poor food and fluid intake. This presentat ion will provide insights on how you can promote your nutrition and improv e your wellbeing by following diet recommendations that support health for older adults as well as identify and address challenges that can increase your nutrition risk.

About the speaker

\n

Heather Keller RD PhD FDC FCAHS is a Professor and the Schl egel Research Chair in Nutrition and Aging at the University of Waterloo a nd the Schlegel-UW Research Institute for Aging. She is an internationally recognized expert in geriatric nutrition\, assessment\, and treatment. Re search areas focus on nutrition risk and malnutrition identification and t reatment across care sectors\; improving nutrition care processes and impl ementing screening and other best practices\; supporting food intake of di verse groups living in the community\, including those living with dementi a\; and improving hospital and residential food and promoting food intake and the mealtime experience in these settings. Professor Keller has led se veral national research and knowledge translation projects\, including the landmark Nutrition Care in Canadian Hospitals\, More-2-Eat and Making the Most of Mealtimes in Long Term Care studies. Professor Keller has publish ed more than 300 peer-reviewed articles and translates much of this eviden ce into practice with tools and resources. As a founding member and past c hair/co-chair (2009-2018) of the Canadian Malnutrition Task Force\, she is involved in translating research into practice and advocating for improve ments in nutrition care for Canadians. \;
