Kickoff the OSU vs Xichigan rivalry week b y joining former OSU star running back Maurice Clarett at the Bexley Publi c Library. Maurice will discuss his book \;One and Done: How My Li fe Started When My Football Career Ended with the book's co-author an d OSU scholar Bob Eckhart. A book signing will follow the discussion.
\ nAbout the Authors:
\nOriginally from Youngstown and still with strong ties there\, Maurice Clarett curre ntly resides in Central Ohio. His oldest child recently graduated from CSG and his two young sons haven't started school yet. Maurice is both a trad itional entrepreneur and social entrepreneur. He and several partners are the owners of the largest group of podiatry practices in the state and als o own several vascular centers throughout Ohio. He also founded the Red Zo ne\, a social service agency which is the primary partner for counseling/s ocial work/therapeutic services for Youngstown City Schools. Maurice trave ls all over the country sharing his own mental health journey which is ong oing. As a true freshman\, he starred for one year for the Ohio State Buck eyes\, the magical 2002 season where the team went 14-0 and beat the Miami Hurricanes in a double-overtime national championship thriller that is ha iled as one of the best college football games of all time. One play from the game\, known as "the strip\," is perhaps the single greatest play in c ollege football history and is a testament to his supreme athleticism as w ell as his cognitive approach to football.
\nA graduate of Columbus Academy ('87)\, Bob Eckhart taught in the OSU English Dep artment for 20+ years during which time he had a curious sidelight as a me ntor/tutor for the OSU athletic department. Maurice was one of many brilli ant athletes he worked with and they kept in touch through frequent letter s while Maurice was incarcerated. After his release\, Bob and Maurice coll aborated for 3 years on the book One and Done: How My Life Started Whe n My Football Career Ended. Bob is an international educator\, having run programs for OSU in China\, Turkey\, and Indonesia. He was also the d irector of the Center for American Culture\, funded by the U.S. State Depa rtment\, on the campus of Wuhan University. Bob has been a Fulbright Schol ar in Belarus and Moldova\, where he currently lives and teaches. Recently \, he has been sent by Professors Without Borders to Uganda\, Nigeria\, an d Turkey to lead short courses at universities there but he maintains a re sidence in the University District and his mother still lives in Upper Arl ington.
