The presentation will feature insights int o the wide range of observational platforms that the National Weather Serv ice (NWS) utilizes to maintain a 24-hour weather watch across Illinois. Th ose will include the WSR-88D Doppler radar\, Geostationary and Polar Orbit ing Satellites\, Automated Surface Observing Systems at airports\, and Wea ther Balloon Launch Systems. Attendees will get a look behind the curtain into Severe Weather Warning Operations at the NWS as well.
\n\n< p>Ed Shimon is currently the Warning Coordination Meteorologist at the NWS in Lincoln. Ed is in charge of the office's readiness for hazardous weath er and public education on their hazardous weather safety program. He is a lso the primary liaison between the office and all the core partners. Ed h as been with the NWS since 1994\, after serving as an officer in the U.S. Navy during the first Gulf War. His time in the NWS has included stays in Madison WI\, Duluth MN\, and Lincoln IL.
