  unrest of the civil rights era\, racial discrimination\, exclusion polici
 es\, and the destruction of Black-owned neighborhoods had a profound impac
 t on Oregon. This presentation delves into how these hurdles shaped Oregon
 \, and how the Black community fought to overcome them.&nbsp\;</p>\n<p>Mar
 iah Rocker is the Public Programs and Exhibits Manager at Oregon Black Pio
 neers. With a bachelor's in Public Relations and a bachelor's in Sociology
 \, Mariah&rsquo\;s passion for uncovering and sharing the stories of margi
 nalized communities is evident in both her professional and personal pursu
 its. In her free time\, Mariah channels the strength and resilience of his
 torical icons by dressing up as them\, and also enjoys crafting handmade m
 iniatures.</p>\n<p>Oregon Black Pioneers is Oregon&rsquo\;s only historica
 l society dedicated to preserving and presenting the experiences of Africa
 n Americans statewide. For more than 30 years\, we&rsquo\;ve illuminated t
 he seldom-told stories of people of African descent in Oregon through our 
 engaging exhibits\, public programs\, publications\, and historical resear
